Why is 2008 the year the Olympics are softball and baseball in sports competitions?

There are two reasons for baseball (and softball) are eliminated from the Games. First, each game takes too long to format two weeks. You can play two football matches in the space nine entries. The other is that the format of a knock-out does not work in baseball – you need at least to the best of three series.
