Why are so many NFL teams had great players, but not to replace them?
An article on Yahoo Sports has spoken equipment known to have a great quarterback, as the New York Jets Namath and the Broncos with Elway. Since these players are gone, the teams have tried to fill a void and find the next big guy. The 49ers have not had anyone decent since Steve Young and Joe Montana, the Jets have been trying for decades, from the left and Namath Dolphins never really had Marino. There are few teams that have managed to replace the Packers star such as replacement Starr Favre (even though they had men among them) and the Cowboys have an endless list with Staubach, Meredith, Aikman, etc. Thoughts and opinions on this? Or is just not a lot of talent today?
I think it has more to do with the ownership and management of players. Some team leaders, however, were not good everywhere, as the Colts (with Unitis and Manning) and the Giant (Warner, Simms and Mannining) and of course the Steelers.
